Yeah, it’s way, way early for a look at the Seminoles, OSU’s opponent for next year’s season opener at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
But did you see these guys — or should we say, the guy, Jameis Winston — on Monday night, when Florida State routed Pitt 41-13?
Scary. Scary good for the Seminoles.
A freshman quarterback, Winston dazzled in his debut, completing 25-of-27 throws for 356 yards and four touchdowns. Also running for a score, Winston totaled five touchdowns and in one game announced Florida State.
And did I mention, he’s a freshman. No chance of him declaring early for the NFL.
More from the scary front: on FSU’s 44-man offensive and defensive depth chart, the Seminoles list just 11 seniors. And but seven are seniors, with two on offense.
Mike Gundy wasn’t crazy about all the extra physical prep work for Mississippi State — a middle of the pack SEC squad — to open this season. Imagine his angst when next August rolls around and the Seminoles could be a top-5 team?
Of course, the Cowboys figure to be strong, too, although they’ll be replacing more key seniors.
Clearly, it’s a game to look forward to, even this early.
Here’s a couple of links on Winston’s breakout:
ESPN’s Andrea Adelson says Winston lived up to the hype.
And Yahoo’s Graham Watson says the same.
