Orange suspiciously absent for OSU football uniforms so far

Some OSU football fans have been asking when the orange uniforms will make a comeback. “We will wear orange,” said OSU equipment manager Wes Edwards. “I promise.”

Oklahoma State unveiled a new university slogan last month: “America's Brightest Orange.”

So far that hasn't exactly applied to the Cowboy football uniform selections.

Sure, hints of OSU's signature color have been there every game. The white, black and gray jerseys all have orange numbers. The pants paired with those tops are accented with orange stripes. And orange is somewhere on the every helmet, whether it's the color of the OSU logo itself or the border that surrounds it.

But through one-third of the season, the Pokes have yet to wear orange jerseys or pants.

What gives?

It's not that OSU is trying to phase out or downplay the color the school is best known for. But when the players are the ones picking the uniform combination worn each week, the natural desire is to sport the new swag right away.

“They've worn orange and white — and I know that's who we are — the whole time they've been here,” OSU equipment manager Wes Edwards said. “They like to change it up and see something different.”

Edwards and his staff met with a panel of selected players — four from the offense and four from the defense — during fall camp and mixed and matched several combinations of jerseys, pants and helmets until they decided on the entire season's lineup.
