The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into whether a police officer was justified in shooting a man during a disturbance call.

Early Tuesday, Altus police were called to 215 E Live Oak. The man who lived there, David Barton, reportedly shot a firearm at an officer, OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said.

The officer, who has yet to be identified, returned gunfire and struck Barton in the left shoulder. Barton was taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, Brown said.

Upon the completion of its investigation, OSBI will report its findings to the district attorney’s office, according to a news release. has disabled the comments for this article.
