OSBI investigates Oklahoma County jail inmate death

The inmate found dead at Oklahoma County jail Monday was being held on multiple misdemeanor complaints, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Artie Hales, 55, a transient, was found injured about 5:40 p.m. on the jail's 10th floor. When emergency personnel arrived, Hales was pronounced dead, OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said.

Hales was jailed March 11 for multiple misdemeanor complaints, including littering, disorderly conduct and failure to appear.

His body had trauma consistent with homicide, Brown said. The state medical examiner will determine the inmate's cause of death.

No arrest has been made, Brown said.
