LUBBOCK, Texas — Oklahoma State fell one win shy of qualifying for the Big 12 Baseball Tournament. The Cowboys ended their regular season Sunday with a 10-9 win over Texas Tech.
The victory was bittersweet since Nebraska finished an improbable sweep Sunday over Baylor. OSU won two of three games at Tech, but the Cowboys needed to sweep the series — coupled with last-place Nebraska sweeping Baylor — to qualify for this week’s Big 12 Tournament at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Instead, OSU’s 9-8 loss in Friday’s series-opening game against the Red Raiders guaranteed the Cowboys would miss the tournament.
Baylor, which has lost 10 straight conference games, edged OSU for the final spot with a 27-23 overall record and 10-16 conference mark.
OSU (33-22, 9-16) hit three home runs Sunday, one each from Tyrone Hambly, Neil Medchill and Dean Green. The Cowboys took the lead for good with six runs in the sixth inning.
Texas Tech (24-30, 12-15) will play in Oklahoma City this week.
