Tulsa residents Bill and Peggy Welch have given OSU $250,000 to establish an endowed professorship dedicated to sports journalism within the university's School of Journalism and Broadcasting.

Peggy Welch is an OSU broadcast and journalism graduate.

Another Tulsan, Bryan Close, gave the university $250,000 to create an endowed professorship in adulthood and aging. Close graduated from OSU in 1966.

OSU said Wednesday that in the last six weeks, it has received about $66.8 million to create endowed chairs, or teaching positions funded from the proceeds from investments.

That money is in addition to $100 million that billionaire energy magnate T. Boone Pickens gave OSU on May 21 for endowed chairs.

E of Norman, how is OSU's $166.8 million mentioned in the article for the past six weeks warrant "catching up" to $167 million for the past year at OU? Seems pretty much on par if you ask me.

Carter- No need to be jealous:
OU has had a similar push for endowed chair donations and about $61 million was contributed by 80 donors during May and June. That brings the total amount given in endowments over the past year to $167 million.
Something else you might not know: OU is on the small and elite list of public universities to have an endowment of more than one BILLION dollars. It is currently $1.112 billion.
Good for OSU and their recent donor successes. I agree that having two quality universities can only be a benefit to our state. OSU just has a lot of catching up to do.

As an OU alum I'm a little jealous, but I'm really proud for the state of Oklahoma. Having two quality universities can only be a benefit.
