OSU assistant Joe DeForest interviews for head coaching job at Lousiana-Lafayette

Along with DeForest’s ties to the school and knowledge of the area and culture, his recruiting prowess could also be an appealing factor. DeForest has long mined players to OSU from Houston, which is a three-hour drive from Lafayette.

According to the Lafayette Advertiser, other candidates who could be in line for interviews include Mississippi State assistant Mark Hudspeth and LSU offensive coordinator Gary Crowton, who has been a head coach at Louisiana Tech and BYU.

ULL athletic director David Walker has said he would like to hire a new coach by mid-December and said the new coach would likely receive a significant pay increase over Bustle’s $225,000 base salary.
