OSU Basketball: Anadarko standout Lakota Beatty signs with Cowgirls

SIGNING DAY — Oklahoma State stuck with Anadarko senior Lakota Beatty through a summer knee injury. On Wednesday Beatty signed with the Cowgirls.

Just one week after receiving a scholarship offer from Oklahoma State and verbally committing, Lakota Beatty thought her senior season at Anadarko could be over before it had begun.

Beatty suffered a knee injury at an Oral Roberts team summer camp that was originally thought to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament. A few days later, though, she was relieved when an MRI revealed a deep bone bruise that would require only rest.

The Cowgirls' staff stuck with their offer and Beatty signed her letter of intent Wednesday morning.

“I feel very fortunate and I'm very thankful the coaches at OSU gave me that opportunity because I don't know what I would have fallen back on if I didn't commit,” said Beatty, who last season led Anadarko to the Class 4A state championship and was a member of The Oklahoman Super 5.

Beatty, who went on an official visit last weekend in Stillwater, also had offers from Tulsa and ORU. She is one of six commitments in OSU's 2013 class.

She also said associate head coach Candace Whitaker had a huge part in her recruitment.

“I think this is where I'm supposed to go just because it was weird how they offered me and they gave me a week to commit, and I committed anyway,” Beatty said. “It was definitely my top pick and then seven days later I got hurt.”
