OSU basketball: Cowboys sign 6-foot-6 wing Tavarius Shine

Oklahoma State’s basketball team needed a dose of good news.

On Thursday, OSU revealed some – the signing of 6-foot-6 wing Tavarius Shine to a letter-of-intent.

Shine is a former Irving, Texas, standout who played last season at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. He had announced his commitment to the Cowboys via Twitter weeks ago, and now it’s official.

“Oklahoma State feels like a very family-oriented program,” Shine said in a release issued by the school. “I was able to build a solid relationship with both coach (Travis) Ford and coach (Chris Ferguson) and felt really comfortable with the entire staff.”

Shine said he chose OSU over Michigan, Tennessee, Wichita State, Tulsa and others, including Houston, where new Cowboys assistant James Dickey had been recruiting him.

“Him joining the program was an added bonus,” Shine said.

Since the end of the season, the Cowboys have lost Marcus Smart and Markel Brown to NBA aspirations, Brian Williams and Kamari Murphy as transfers and felt obliged to release recruit Jared Terrell from his commitment, due to family issues.
