PRAGUE, Czech Republic — Oklahoma State sophomore Marcus Smart scored 11 points to help the U.S. beat Serbia 82-68 on Sunday in the FIBA U19 World Championships gold medal game.
Smart added three rebounds, three assists and two steals. He was one of four Americans to score in double figures as the U.S. won its fifth gold meal but just the second since 1995.
Serbia trailed just 40-38 at halftime and kept it close until 9½ minutes remained in the game. That's when the U.S. went on a 13-1 run. Smart scored five points during the rally.
Smart finished the nine-game tournament averaging 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.2 assists.
