Cowboys coach Travis Ford watched Kansas State grind out a win over Texas on Wednesday, feeling relieved that his team wasn't involved.

Then came Saturday.

“I thought Kansas State vs. Texas was a physical game,” Ford said after his Cowboys were handled in a 66-58 loss. “I made some comments the past two days with our staff, and just marveled at the Kansas State-Texas game the other night. ‘I'm glad we weren't in that game.'

“And then…”

Not only was Ford bothered by what he perceived as rough game – “That was a football game” – it was his team that was called for more fouls, a season-high 29, with Brian Williams, Markel Brown and Cezar Guerrero all fouling out.

“Physically, they were allowed to just whip us,” Ford said. “We were fighting and doing anything we can. They were allowed to play to their strength. I don't know any other way to put it.”

The Gallagher-Iba Arena crowd clearly agreed.

The officials, booed off the court at halftime, received a boost in security, with three uniformed campus police officers providing an escort to their locker room.

More displeasure came in the second half.

“They were allowed to play to their strength as a team, so give them credit,” Ford said of the Wildcats. “Give them absolute credit, they deserved to win the game. But that's a tough game for us to play, if the game is going to be played like that.

“They like to offensive rebound and they get 22 of them. They like to play physical and they shoot 40 free throws. That kind of boils it down.”
