OSU basketball player Darrell Williams to face additional rape count at May trial

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State basketball player Darrell Williams will now face four counts of rape by instrumentation and a count of sexual battery at a trial slated to begin in May.

Williams was originally charged with just three counts of rape by instrumentation and the sexual battery count after two female OSU students accused the Cowboy forward of improperly touching them at a December off-campus party.

After the charges were filed, Williams was suspended indefinitely from the basketball team and did not play for the rest of the season.

Payne County District Judge Michael Stano ended a preliminary hearing in the case on Monday and added the additional rape by instrumentation count, while denying a request that Williams also be charged with another count of sexual battery and a charge of kidnapping.

“We're pleased with the decision,” said Tontz, who was the acting attorney for the majority of the preliminary hearing. “We believed the judge could bound him over on all seven requested counts and the judge bound him over on five so we believe that was the proper decision.”

During Monday’s proceedings, William Baker, the attorney for Williams, moved to quash the information presented by the state, represented by Payne County assistant district attorney Jill Tontz and district attorney Tom Lee.
