OSU basketball: Stevie Clark dismissed from team following weekend arrest

STILLWATER – Stevie Clark’s career at Oklahoma State didn’t last a full season.

And his quick departure cripples the Cowboys’ depth even further.

Clark was dismissed Monday by Cowboys coach Travis Ford, on the heels of his early Sunday morning arrest – his third incident since joining the program.

“We care about Stevie and wish nothing but the best for him,” Ford said. “We want him to find success in his future, wherever that may be.”

The dismissal of Clark takes away a bench scoring threat and a natural point guard who could free Marcus Smart and Markel Brown to play without the ball for stretches of games. Now those two will have to share the point position.

And the impact extends beyond the point.

Entering Monday night’s game against Iowa State, the Cowboys had but six available players averaging more seven minutes or more a game.

The Cowboys used just three reserves in Saturday’s loss to Baylor, with Clark playing 11 minutes. One of the three, Gary Gaskins, played only three minutes.

Gaskins did not play against Iowa State, but Leyton Hammonds and Christien Sager each got minutes.
