OSU football: It's time for the Cowboys to buckle up

A backloaded schedule will offer OSU many challenges.

NOV. 9: KANSAS

Big 12 record: 0-4

The Cowboys' final “easy” on the schedule is the Big 12's biggest cupcake. The Jayhawks became the latest team to get thumped by Baylor, losing 59-14 in Lawrence Saturday. The last time KU visited Stillwater, the Cowboys put up 70 points.

NOV. 16: AT TEXAS

Big 12 record: 4-0

Before the season, this late-season matchup was pegged as the game that could determine the Big 12 champ. Then the Longhorns and Cowboys stumbled in September. Now, this again looks like a marquee contest. College football is neat.

NOV. 23: BAYLOR

Big 12 record: 4-0

The Bears' schedule is even more backloaded than OSU's: OU, Texas Tech (in Arlington), at OSU, at TCU, Texas. And Baylor's last win in Stillwater came in 1939. But did you know the Bears are good at offense? Baylor leads the nation in scoring (63.9 points per game) and total offense (718.4 yards per game), while quarterback Bryce Petty has already thrown for more than 2,400 yards, 18 touchdowns and just one interception.

DEC. 7: OKLAHOMA

Big 12 record: 4-1

It will be tough to top the entertainment value of last season's overtime classic. But plenty could be on the line for Bedlam 2013. Both teams possess a strong defense and an inconsistent offense, and have had at least one major quarterback switch this season.
