Eventually, with some prodding from Cowboys coach Mike Gundy, the Cowboys got physical.

“We started out slow,” Gundy said. “We brought the team together; we didn't really have the enthusiasm that we should and from that point on, the last hour of practice, we did.”

Gundy said that several periods, including the “team” portion of practice when the offense and defense go head-to-head, “were good with a lot of competition. Overall, we finished out practice strong.”

And from practice, the Cowboys had more work to do.

“Now we're going to go root the Cowgirls on to a victory (in the WNIT),” Gundy said.

QB WATCH: SEEKING CLARITY

Cowboys coaches continue to split reps among the three quarterback candidates — Clint Chelf, J.W. Walsh and Wes Lunt — with no clear No. 1 emerging yet.

That doesn't mean Gundy wouldn't like to name a starter before spring drills conclude.

“I hope,” Gundy said. “I would like to do it before the last three practices. I mentioned before spring that as soon as we feel like we have a guy who is the starter, we want to name him the starter. I would prefer to not have a two-quarterback system.

“I think the quicker we establish who the starter is, or that person establishes himself as the starter, it benefits Oklahoma State football.”
