Desmond Roland says he feels more relaxed heading into games these days, now that he knows he is going to be the Cowboys' starting running back because of his production since moving into that role.

Despite limited reps against Baylor because of a shoulder injury, he's tallied 601 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns and is averaging 4.3 yards per carry.

But where does Roland feel he can still improve?

“My tempo on my steps,” he said. “Sometimes I get kind of sloppy with my footwork once I get three carries in a row, four carries in a row. And being more explosive down the field. I feel like I can get better at that.”

OSU's place in the top 10 of all major polls is reflected in its place among the NCAA stat leaders.

Some key numbers:

* Tied for 11th in scoring defense (18.8 points allowed per game) and 12th in scoring offense (41.2 points per game)

* Tied for second in turnover margin (plus-16), tied for fifth in takeaways (29) and third in interceptions (19)

* Fifth in red zone defense (65.8 percent conversion) and 17th in red zone offense (89.3 percent conversion)
