Yet if the Longhorns have a regret, it's that they've settled for field goals 11 times.
Kicker Anthony Fera can be counted on, as he's perfect on red zone field goals and 15-for-16 overall on field goals this season. Still, with the Longhorns facing high leverage games against OSU, Texas Tech and Baylor in the closing weeks, they're looking for more.
“Does it raise any red flags? Yeah, we want touchdowns,” said Texas offensive coordinator Major Applewhite. “We want to get more touchdowns down there.
“Anthony has been great, he's applied some pressure and been a real weapon for us in terms of scoring from even way out, but we've got to score more touchdowns there.”
Applewhite on OSU cornerback and kick returner Justin Gilbert:
“Just a phenomenal athlete. Just very skilled. Obviously, they talk about him in the terms of his kickoff return abilities, but you just watch him, he's a great athlete. We've know that for a while.”
TRACY MOORE, CLINT CHELF SHARE BOND
Against Kansas, the Clint Chelf-to-Tracy Moore connection was on, with Moore catching six passes for 77 yards. Three of Moore's four touchdowns on the season have come the past three weeks, since Chelf took over at quarterback for J.W. Walsh.
And the connection doesn't end on the field.
“We're really close,” Moore said. “Our parents sit next to each other every game. We've been really close, just because of how long we've been on the team together since our freshman year.”
