OSU football notebook: Some notable absences at first Holiday Bowl practice

Motivation for their 10th win kept the Cowboys focused in the pouring rain at the University of San Diego’s Torero Stadium.

"It was pretty brutal conditions for a while there,” quarterback Zac Robinson said. "But guys were enthusiastic and excited to be out here. We had fun out there and just pushed through the conditions and got our work in.”

Time for fun
After a morning practice today, the Cowboys will head to the San Diego Zoo. On Saturday, the team will go to SeaWorld, and on Sunday, they’ll have lunch on the USS Bonhomme Richard with U.S. Navy and Marine Corps members.

Hidden Ducks
Gundy on Oregon’s talent level, which possibly goes unnoticed at times: "(Oregon is) one of the best kept secrets in college football. They are so far out west that a lot of people don’t see them much.

"But coach (Mike) Bellotti and the guys on that staff have been together awhile and understand what’s going on. Their system is in place, and they prepare well. They’ll be a very quality opponent for us.”
