Pokes' play-calling decision on hold
Like he plans to do in choosing a backup quarterback, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy
likely will wait until this weekend to make a decision on who will call plays for the Cowboy offense.
Gundy called plays in last December's Insight Bowl after offensive coordinator Larry Fedora
took the head coaching job at Southern Mississippi. Gundy said in the summer that he hoped to make a decision in the first two weeks of camp, which passed last Thursday.
Either Gundy or co-offensive coordinator Gunter Brewer
will call the plays.
* Position battles:
While the backup quarterbacks have drawn a lot of attention during the first three weeks of camp, it might seem that other position battles have become lost in the shuffle.
But Gundy says there aren't a lot of battles to be won at other positions. Of course, at several positions, like running back and receiver, multiple players will rotate in and potentially get as many snaps as the starters.
"(Offensive line coach Joe Wickline
) might have a couple guys on the offensive line (fighting for starting jobs). Andrew Mitchell
has helped us out, giving us another tackle and he rotates in there some,” Gundy said.
