Damian Davis suspended for season opener
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy confirmed Monday that projected starting receiver Damian Davis is suspended for Saturday's season opener against Washington State.

Gundy said the one-game suspension was for an unspecified violation of team policy. Davis was arrested at a bar in Stillwater in late June and charged with being underage in a bar, possessing a fake ID and presenting a fake ID to a police officer with the intent of deceiving the officer and obstructing an investigation.

Davis is listed on the team's depth chart as the starting slot receiver. His absence Saturday will provide added opportunities for redshirt freshman Josh Cooper and junior-college transfer Bo Bowling.

•Gundy won't name backup QB: If he was forced to pick a backup quarterback, Gundy says he'd go with sophomore Alex Cate over redshirt freshman Brandon Weeden. But the coach doesn't feel strongly enough about that choice to name Cate the second-stringer behind Zac Robinson heading into Saturday's game.

"Both guys have gotten better, but there hasn't been one who has done anything in practice to distance himself from the other,” Gundy said Monday.

"We're gonna keep both of them at the same amount of reps that they've had throughout (fall camp).
