The loss of Bowie, who started five games for the Cowboys as a junior last season, is a big blow for OSU two days before fall camp opens. The Cowboys already needed to replace departed seniors Grant Garner and Levy Adcock from the 2011 offensive line.

“Mike was a good player for us, but it didn’t work out,” Gundy said following his media golf tournament at Karsten Creek. “And I think the one thing people have to realize that it’s extremely difficult to play college football and there are certain standards and requirements that you have to meet in order to be a part of our football team, and that’s coaches and players.

“We don’t really bend for anybody at any particular time. The team will be fine. Another player steps in. We expect them to compete.”

Redshirt freshman Devin Davis is currently listed behind Bowie on OSU's most recent depth chart. Todd Monken also said Wednesday that Parker Graham could move from right tackle to left tackle, and Daniel Koenig could slide in to the starting role at right tackle.
