OSU football spring question: Writers weigh in on who the coaches will choose at quarterback

It looks like J.W. Walsh and Wes Lunt are the leaders in the race. Could Walsh take the job now and then be unseated by Lunt in the fall?

BERRY TRAMEL: But if the coaches believe that could happen, that Walsh could give way in August or September to Lunt, why not just name Lunt now?

GINA MIZELL: Just because it could happen doesn't mean it will. And Walsh told me Saturday that even though the staff will name a starter this week, that doesn't mean the competition is over in his eyes.

JOHN HELSLEY: Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if either Walsh or Lunt is named initially, I just think Walsh makes more sense, politically as much as anything. Walsh seems to be the more vocal leader for directing summer workouts. And, as Gina notes, he'll almost surely have a package in the offense, if not the full job. Let Lunt keep progressing and pushing and see what happens next.

GINA MIZELL: You bring up a great point. Walsh is absolutely more equipped to organize those summer workouts, which I think is a bigger factor in this decision than people realize. The only thing that would really shock me at this point is if Chelf was named the starter. We'll all find out this week.
