OSU home for opener, but against tough foe

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State has opened on the road six of the past eight seasons, and the only two times the Cowboys hosted their opener, they faced inferior opponents.

2000: at Tulsa, Chapman (formerly Skelly) Stadium, OSU 36-26

Coming off a 5-6 season, OSU took a 21-point first-quarter lead and held off Tulsa’s rally. Reggie White rushed for 187 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Cowboys finished 3-8.

2001: at Southern Mississippi, Roberts Stadium, So. Miss 17-9

The Cowboys lost four fumbles and were held to 45 rushing yards as they lost Les Miles’ first game as head coach.
