OSU Insider: A look at the Cowboy defense

The Oklahoma State defense made big progress last season under defensive coordinator Bill Young. Here's a look at some of the needs and how they are being addressed in the 2011 recruiting class.

Committed: Miketavious Jones, Galena Park (Texas) North Shore

Potential targets: None.

On campus: The Cowboys stocked up at defensive back in 2009 with seven signees and both of OSU's projected starters are sophomores with backups who are underclassmen as well. Needless to say, this is not a huge position of need.

Analysis: Jones is only 5-10, 157 pounds but is very aggressive and physical. Adding another cornerback is an option, but OSU won't add one just because it feels it needs to.

Committed: Isaac Maselera, Glenpool

Potential targets: Lyndell Johnson, Plano (Texas) East; Quentin Sargent, Arlington (Texas) Bowie.

On campus: Much like corner, not a huge need. With seven incoming defensive backs and great depth at the position already, OSU could add one or two players at safety because Young's system requires plenty of versatile defensive backs.

Analysis: Maselera committed early but could be one of the sleepers in the class. He could provide another versatile safety with the athletic ability to play corner during his OSU career.

Committed: None.

Potential targets: None.

On campus: Quinn Sharp is a solid punter with All-American potential who was originally signed as a kicker.

Analysis: Sharp has the ability to serve as OSU's kicker, punter and kickoff specialist, so the Pokes don't need to use a scholarship to replace Dan Bailey.
