Oklahoma State’s running game is the best in the Big 12 for a number of reasons. First of all, the Cowboys are dedicated to the run. Secondly, they’ve got the guys to make it work.

After last week at Texas, the Cowboys have rushed for 2,199 yards this season. Baylor is second at 1,495.

Co-offensive coordinator Trooper Taylor said that has a lot to do with the dynamics of the group, led by running backs coach Curtis Luper.

"Those guys in that room and the personality of their position coach makes for a pretty good group,” Taylor said. "Those guys compete hard against each other — I don’t care if they’re playing basketball, those guys compete hard against each other. Even with their grades, they’re talking about who was the highest on a test or how they graded out in the games.”

Cyclone warning

OSU coaches talked at length earlier this week about how much Iowa State has continued to improve. The Cyclones have not yet won a Big 12 game, but defensive coordinator Tim Beckman said the way Iowa State played Texas A&M should get OSU’s attention.

"This Iowa State football team is a lot better team than they were when the season started,” Taylor said.

Tea time

One member of OSU’s improved defensive line is improved tackle Tonga Tea, Beckman said.
