Punter/Kickoff Specialist Quinn Sharp and snapper Marc Yerry did not make the trip to San Antonio and will miss the Alamo Bowl against Arizona on Dec. 29 after failing to meet academic requirements.

“They didn't pass six hours,” Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said.

Lou Groza Award winner Dan Bailey, the Pokes' senior kicker, will fulfill all the kicking duties, including kickoffs. It is unknown who will replace Sharp as the primary punter.

“Dan or (Michael) Richenstein will do the punting,” Gundy said after the Cowboys first practice in San Antonio. “We worked on that today.”

Bailey has been listed as Sharp's backup at punter for the majority of the year. Richenstein is a redshirt freshman punter from Dallas. Freshman Andrew Suter is listed as Yerry's backup and will likely replace the junior snapper.

The Cowboys participated in their first practice at Alamo Heights High School on Wednesday night.

Receivers coach Gunter Brewer had to leave San Antonio shortly after the Cowboys arrived due to his mother's death.

“We got here and got settled in, and he got a phone call, so he and his family are headed to Mississippi to be with family,” Gundy said.

It's unknown when Brewer will return.

Biletnikoff Award winner Justin Blackmon expects to be 100 percent for the Alamo Bowl after battling an ankle injury since late November. The Cowboys receiver was named the nation's top receiver after catching 102 passes for 1,665 yards and 18 touchdowns.
