OSU Report Card: The Cowboys' punter was sharp; New uniforms? Not so much

JENNI CARLSON'S OSU REPORT CARD — Oklahoma State graded high for atmosphere and punting in its 63-34 opening win. It's a good thing there's other uniform combinations to choose from.

ATMOSPHERE: A

OSU had its fifth-largest home crowd in school history, 55,382. Such a big crowd against a so-so opponent is a sign of the excitement surrounding this season. The crowd showed up early and stayed well into the second half of a game that was well in Cowboy control. It bodes well for Thursday night's showdown against Arizona.

DEFENSIVE FRONT SEVEN: B

Louisiana-Lafayette managed only 108 yards rushing, and much of what the Ragin' Cajuns did get came when they went to the outside. Room was limited in the inside. The Cowboys had five sacks and four quarterback hurries. Even though Louisiana-Lafayette is no worldbeater, those numbers bode well for a defense that had questions the front seven.

MARKELLE MARTIN: A

The senior safety was stellar. He had a team-high nine tackles and caused a fumble, which is nothing new for a guy who's a big hitter. But he also showed prowess in defending the passing game, breaking up three passes.
