OSU softball: Mark Ryal added as assistant softball coach

Mark Ryal has been hired as an assistant coach with the Oklahoma State softball team, announced Friday on okstate.com.

Ryal, a native of Dewar, served as an assistant at South Alabama during the 2013-14 season, helping the Jaguars to a 42-14 record and a regional final appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He was the head softball coach at Prague High School in 2012-13 following a five-season stint with Auburn University as a hitting coach.



Ryal also has coached at Carl Albert State (head coach, 2007-08), Oklahoma (hitting coach, 1995) and four years at Inola High School. Ryal was also a scout for the Kansas City Royals in 2005, and broke into the major leagues with the Royals as a player in 1982. He played parts of six MLB seasons with the Royals, Chicago White Sox, California Angels, Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ryal's son, Rusty was a member of the OSU baseball team in 2004-05.
