OU and Tulsa to be featured on Fox Sports 1's Thursday night football package

The new network will launch Aug. 17 as the replacement for the Speed channel. OU will be featured at Baylor on Nov. 7, and Tulsa has home games against Iowa State on Sept. 26 and Marshall on Nov. 14. Kickoff for all three games is 6:30 p.m.

OU and Tulsa will be featured in Thursday night football package on Fox Sports 1, Fox's new national sports network. OU will be featured at Baylor on Nov. 7, and Tulsa has home games against Iowa State on Sept. 26 and Marshall on Nov. 14. Kickoff for all three games is 6:30 p.m.

Fox Sports 1, which will launch Aug. 17 with 90 million homes, will replace the Speed channel and be Fox's main competitor to ESPN.

The rest of the Thursday night schedule includes Utah State at Utah on Aug. 29, Florida Atlantic at East Carolina on Sept. 5, Tulane at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 12, UCLA at Utah on Oct. 3, Arizona at USC on Oct. 10, Marshall at Middle Tennessee on Oct. 24, Rice at North Texas on Oct. 31, Rice at UAB on Nov. 21 and Texas Tech at Texas on Nov. 28.

Fox Sports 1 makes its college football debut with the Utah-Utah State game. The network's other two games Labor Day weekend are North Dakota State at Kansas State at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 30 and Boise State at Washington at 9 p.m. Aug. 31. OSU makes its Fox Sports 1 debut when it plays at UT-San Antonio at 11 a.m. Sept. 7.

ESPN to drop 3-D network

It's rare that ESPN turns its back on new technology, but it plans to discontinue its 3-D network by end of the year. ESPN 3-D, which launched in June 2010, has struggled to gain traction with viewers as the adoption of 3-D television sets by U.S. consumers has yet to meet the expectations of set manufacturers.

ESPN didn't say exactly how many viewers it had for ESPN 3-D, but the number was “extremely limited and not growing,” the network said.

*Thunder guard Russell Westbrook received the “#Trendsetter Award” at the NBA Social Media Awards on Wednesday as the player that displayed the best sense of style via social media. Lakers star Kobe Bryant won two awards — the “Social MVP Award” and the “140 Award” for the best use of characters in a tweet. The Miami Heat's Harlem Shake video, which has received more than 45 million views, won the “OMG Award” for the team with the best video shared via social.
