A star in the houseDavidson’s Stephen Curry, like OU’s Blake Griffin, was named a preseason first-team AP All-American. His visit to Norman on Tuesday night marked just the third time in non-conference play that a first-team All-American faced the Sooners in Lloyd Noble Center. The other two: Arizona’s Sean Elliott in the 1988-89 season and Vanderbilt’s Billy McCaffrey in 1993-94. OU beat Arizona, ranked No. 1 at the time, 82-80. The Sooners lost to Vanderbilt 77-67 in the postseason NIT in Billy Tubbs’ last game as OU coach.
Up nextThe Sooners return to the court Saturday at 1 p.m. to face Gardner-Webb inside Lloyd Noble Center. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are 0-2, losing close games at Virginia Tech and at Longwood. OU beat Gardner-Webb a year ago, after the Bulldogs had pulled one of the season’s big upsets, winning at Kentucky. After that game, the Sooners return to action in the NIT Season Tip-Off. They’ll face Tuesday’s late Arizona-UAB winner in a semifinal at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 26.
