OU basketball notebook: Four Sooners honored by Big 12

Oklahoma forward Tyler Neal was named the Big 12 co-Sixth Man of the Year, and Buddy Hield, Cameron Clark and Ryan Spangler also earned league honors.

Oklahoma forward Tyler Neal was named the Big 12 co-Sixth Man of the Year, and Buddy Hield, Cameron Clark and Ryan Spangler also earned honors when the All-Big 12 awards were named by the conference Sunday.

Neal shared the award with Oklahoma State’s Phil Forte.

After not playing much last year, Neal has become a valuable piece in the rotation as a senior.

The Putnam City West product is averaging career highs in points (6.4) and rebounds (3.4).

Hield was named to the All-Big 12 second team, Clark was a third-team selection and Spangler an honorable mention.

Hield, a sophomore guard, is averaging 16.8 points and 1.5 steals per game.

Clark averaged 15.2 points and 5.6 rebounds.

Spangler leads the league in rebounding with 9.4 per game and averages 9.9 points.

The selections are made by the league’s coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
