It's uncertain how Oklahoma's season might have turned out if sophomore guard Calvin Newell hadn't transferred after five games.
Newell averaged 13.0 points and made 10 3-pointers. Since Newell's departure, the Sooners have lacked a long-range complement to Steven Pledger.
“It's pretty obvious no one else is really making shots,” said Carl Blair. “We have guys that are capable. We've just got to do it.”
OU has made 43 3-pointers in a dozen conference games. Pledger accounts for 31 of the 43.
Blair has made six 3-pointers in league play, Romero Osby three, Sam Grooms one, Tyler Neal one and T.J. Franklin one.
“A guy has to want to be here,” said OU coach Lon Kruger. “If Calvin didn't want to be here, and he didn't, we're respectful of that. Had Calvin stayed, and played the way he was playing, we would have liked that, too, if he wanted to be here. But he didn't so it's kind of a moot point.”
ROAD STRUGGLES CONTINUE
OU, 1-5 on the road in conference play, is 2-23 in Big 12 road games dating back to Blake Griffin's final road game.
The team's two league road wins the past three seasons were at Kansas State last month and an overtime win at Iowa State last season.
