OU basketball notebook: Stephen Pledger is Sooners' only 3-point threat

OKLAHOMA BASKETBALL — Iowa State drained nearly half as many 3-pointers Saturday night in a 77-70 win as Oklahoma has drained in 10 Big 12 Conference games.

The Sooners trailed 73-70 when Grooms lost control of the ball in the lane with 35 seconds left. OU was forced to foul. Iowa State hit four free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

“I just mishandled the ball,” Grooms said. “There's no other way to explain it. I cost my team a play and a chance to get a shot off.”

UP NEXT

The Sooners host No. 4 Missouri on Monday night at 6. The Tigers romped to an 87-49 win in the first meeting, the most lopsided loss in the series in nearly 90 years. The game will be televised on ESPNU (Cox 253).

Iowa State's win ended a five-game losing streak against OU that dated back to 2006 since teams only played each other once when there were North and South divisions. ... The Sooners grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, outscoring the Cyclones 14-7 in second-chance points. ... Pledger has scored in double figures in 20 of 21 games this season. ... The game was stopped for two minutes early in the second half when a kid on the front row tripped and fell, dropping two snow cones that slid onto the court. ... The Cyclones had assists on 19 of their 25 baskets.
