University of Oklahoma senior running back DeMarco Murray has received plenty of preseason pub. Murray was voted a preseason All-American by Phil Steele Magazine.

In his first season as the team's primary ball-carrier, Murray has set a goal for himself to rush for 1,500 yards, which would be a career high.

OU coach Bob Stoops has even greater expectations.

"I don't think that's enough," Stoops said Tuesday during an OU carvan stop in Tulsa. "I'd sure like to see him at 1,900. Not like we haven't done it. Adrian (Peterson) and Quinton Griffin both were over 1,900. We'll see. Hopefully he can do something like that."

Whitney Hand progressing well

OU women's basketball coach Sherri Coale said Tuesday that shooting guard Whitney Hand continues to progress nicely from a torn ACL that ended her 2009-10 season five games into the schedule.

"She's doing great," Coale said. "She's shooting on the move, on the dribble. She'll be completely 100 percent by August."

Quotable

"Really proud of him. He'll do a great job. He's going to be great in this profession. He's been through a lot and learned a lot at a young age. He's going to be one of the bright young stars in this profession." — OU men's basketball coach Jeff Capel on Kellen Sampson, who accepted a full-time assistant coaching position at Stephen F. Austin last month. Sampson, the son of ex-OU hoops coach Kelvin Sampson, joined Capel's staff as a grad assistant two years ago.
