Oklahoma center Gabe Ikard is one of 170 candidates for the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards.

Ikard was an Academic All-American last season and a second-team Academic All-American as a sophomore.

Candidates are nominated by their schools and must be seniors or graduate students in their final seasons of eligibility, have a GP of at least 3.2, be a starter or significant contributor and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship. Up to 16 finalists are selected by a group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletic administrators.

The results will be announced Oct. 31, with each recipient receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and a trip to the NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. Finalists will be up for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which will be presented at the ceremony. The award, which honors the top scholar-athlete in the country, increases the recipient’s scholarship by $7,000.

The award has been given since 1990, when Air Force’s Chris Howard won. Alabama’s Barrett Jones won the award last season.

Oklahoma State quarterback Clint Chelf and Southern Nazarene’s Stan West are also among the nominees.
