/span> I'll throw these two together. I think part of the surge is just timing, as the Sooners are coming off their camp. But also think the momentum from the Sugar Bowl is getting another bump. I don't think Bob Stoops has changed his recruiting approach but I think the new blood brought in last year is paying off.
Roland R. 11:10 a.m. Chances Wariboko comes back around to OU?
Ryan Aber 11:12 a.m. I think there's certainly a chance of that happening. Most guys who decommit don't really consider going back to their original commitment but Wariboko is a bit different. He wanted to be open about the process, wanted to go on visits and wants to play with his brother. I think if OU offers Max Wariboko, there's a good chance he winds up committed to the Sooners again. But it's also not a sure thing. Josh Wariboko is visiting UCLA this weekend.
MPG 11:13 a.m. Sooners have to get the Wariboko, Sunderland, Barnett. That would solidify the line and the backfield for the next three years.
Ryan Aber 11:16 a.m. Certainly that would be an incredible in-state push for the Sooners to get those three. I think Barnett is likely to eventually pick OU. Sunderland is a hard guy to get a read on although the Sooners are in pretty good shape and he has a solid relationship with Mike Stoops. For Wariboko, see above. If I had to guess, I'd say they get 2/3 but a sweep there would be huge.
Kevin 11:18 a.m. What are the chances TaShawn Thomas is eligible to play this season?
Ryan Aber 11:20 a.m. I'd say decent. These kind of waivers, especially after a coach leaves one program, have been approved more and more in recent years. The rules are changing, though, and if this transfer was happening a year from now, it wouldn't be a question. Thomas would have to sit out a year. OU's coaches, though, aren't too worried about Thomas' situation either way. He'll be playing with virtually the same team if he has to sit out a year, as only D.J. Bennett is a senior on this team.
Guest 11:20 a.m. What's up with Isaiah Cousins?
Ryan Aber 11:21 a.m. He's back in Norman and continues his recovery. The team started workouts yesterday and Cousins did not participate but he should be back on the court soon. Everything still looks encouraging.
Paul 11:21 a.m. Who is the No. 2 qb going into next season? And we still don't know if Knight can last an entire season, so is there any chance Blake Bell woulod be back at qb if Knight gets hurt?
Ryan Aber 11:23 a.m. Right now, I'd say it's probably Cody Thomas over Justice Hansen, although not sure I'd feel real comfortable with either of those guys leading the offense for extended time right now. I think if Trevor Knight were to be injured very early in the season, then they'd consider moving Bell back to quarterback despite their insistence that his position change is permanent. But if it happens later in the season, they'll go with either Thomas or Hansen.
Ryan Aber 11:25 a.m. Also I think the Sooners coaches are really hoping Baker Mayfield's last-ditch appeal goes through. As he showed in the spring game Mayfield has the ability to make plays. They want Trevor Knight to be their starter but an eligible Mayfield would be a nice security blanket in case of an injury.
Brad 11:25 a.m. Is OU looking at any quarterbacks this season in recruiting with Knight and Hansen on the roster?
Ryan Aber 11:29 a.m. No doubt they are. Torrance Gibson wants to play QB at the next level and the Sooners have made a strong push for him, though not sure it will be enough. But they definitely want to add a QB in this class.
dooby 11:30 a.m. what's the deal with the 7' JUCO kid, Longar Longar's cousin, who visited Kruger recently?
Ryan Aber 11:33 a.m. His name is Akolda Manyang and he's a 7-foot center from Indian Hills CC, where it looks like he'll be teammates with Stevie Clark. He's also drawn interest from Arizona State and Minnesota (where he's from). He'd be a solid addition for next year, especially with Bennett leaving. He's a more physical inside presence and think he'd give the Sooners a better inside offensive option than they have now.
Ryan Aber 11:33 a.m. Thanks for the questions. That's all the time we have for today. Look forward to chatting again soon.
