OU football ends 5-game BCS bowl skid with Fiesta Bowl win

GLENDALE, Ariz. — After Oklahoma's win over Connecticut, wideout Ryan Broyles wouldn't reveal if the Fiesta Bowl would be his final game in a Sooner uniform.

Despite battling an illness Saturday night, Broyles put a stamp on one of the greatest seasons in OU history regardless of position, hauling in 13 passes for 170 yards and an acrobatic touchdown that sealed the 48-20 victory.

“Ryan's such a great player,” said quarterback Landry Jones. “That catch in the end zone was spectacular. But it seems like he has one of those a game.”

Broyles finished the season with a Sooner-record 131 catches, 1,622 yards and 14 touchdowns.

But his fourth-quarter touchdown grab was one of the most amazing in his career.

Flanked by a UConn cornerback, Broyles speared the 5-yard pass from Landry Jones in the corner of the end zone, then stabbed one foot inbounds for the score. The play was so close it warranted an official review. But the touchdown was confirmed, putting the Sooners up by three touchdowns with just under eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

“Ryan does some of the most amazing things catching the football,” coach Bob Stoops said.

“He does amazing things every game.”
