Share “OU football: Breaking down TCU”

Published: September 22, 2008

•Location: Forth Worth, Texas

•Enrollment: 8,865

•Mascot: Horned Frogs

•Conference: Mountain West

•Record: 4-0

•Last game: The Horned Frog defense held SMU to minus 8 yards rushing and forced three turnovers on the way to a 48-7 victory.

•Best player: Defensive end Jerry Hughes has 16 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

•Why they could win: The Horned Frogs are unbeaten, having routed everyone on the schedule thus far. Since Gary Patterson took over, TCU has done it with defense, and this defense is among the best in the country.

•Why they could lose: TCU's offensive strength, running the ball, plays right into OU's hands. The Sooners have one of the best run defenses in college football, meaning the Horned Frogs will probably have to throw the ball downfield to have a chance. Starting QB Andy Dalton hasn't completed a pass for more than 31 yards.

•Noteworthy: TCU is 66-25 since Patterson took over for Dennis Franchione in the 2000 Mobile Alabama Bowl. Patterson has compiled four seasons of 10 or more wins.
