OWENS ON POST OFFICE?
A bill introduced in Congress would result in 1969 Heisman Trophy winner Steve Owens having his name on a post office in his northeastern Oklahoma hometown.

Rep. Dan Boren, D-Okla., says he wanted to honor Owens permanently by renaming the post office in Miami for the former Oklahoma running back and athletic director. The 61-year-old Owens was born in Gore before becoming a prep star at Miami High School. After winning the Heisman Trophy at OU, he played in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.

A main thoroughfare in Miami already is named "Steve Owens Boulevard” in honor of Owens. Owens has been inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and the Orange Bowl Hall of Honor.
