Where every OU football coach since World War II was at the age of 50:

Jim Tatum: Died at the age of 46. Coached OU 1946.


Bud Wilkinson (April 23, 1966): About to begin his first year broadcasting college football for ABC, after two seasons with NBC. Coached OU 1947-63.

Gomer Jones (Feb. 26, 1964): Just named head coach at OU. Coached OU 1964-65.

Jim Mackenzie: Died at the age of 37 after coaching OU 1966.

Chuck Fairbanks (June 10, 1983): In the middle of his only USFL season coaching the New Jersey Generals. Coached OU 1967-72.

Barry Switzer (Oct. 5, 1987): In the middle of his 15th season as OU's head coach.

Howard Schnellenberger (March 16, 1984): Coaching Miami U., two months shy of taking USFL job. Coached OU 1995.

John Blake (March 6, 2011): Turns 50 next spring. Just resigned as North Carolina assistant coach. Coached OU 1996-98.
