Perhaps it’s all that swaying back-and-forth, or the traditional college setting that has the feel of 1958 rather than 2008.
Whatever the reason, Oklahoma often is prone to distraction when it plays at Texas A&M.
Kyle Field is a tough place to play for nearly every visitor, especially the Sooners.
Since 1994, OU is 3-4 in College Station, but only twice have the Aggies been the higher-ranked team.
The four meetings under coach Bob Stoops have been decided by an average of four points.
In 2006, the No. 18-ranked Sooners survived 17-16.
In 2004, No. 2-ranked OU endured 42-35.
In 2002, the Sooners were stunned 30-26 and got to spend just one measly week at No. 1.
In 2000, top-ranked OU nearly got derailed on its national title quest, but remained unbeaten thanks to a fourth-quarter, 41-yard, pick-six from linebacker Torrance Marshall for a 35-31 victory.
The Sooners are 27-point favorites for today’s 2:30 p.m. contest at Kyle Field.
They remain alive for the Big 12 South title, the Big 12 championship game and perhaps the national championship game.
This is no time to be prone to distraction.
"Going down to A&M is always an exciting but challenging thing," Stoops said.
Indeed, and today figures to be no different.
