NORMAN — Former Oklahoma defensive lineman Dusty Dvoracek left the sideline to join play-by-play announcer Toby Rowland and color commentator Merv Johnson in the booth for the spring football game’s radio broadcast Saturday. Could that arrangement carry over into the fall?

A source with knowledge of the situation told The Oklahoman that could be the case, although no final decisions have been made yet.

The move makes sense for several reasons. Dvoracek has seen his role with Sooner Sports TV expanded of late, and he was the choice to fill in for Johnson last October when the OU icon’s wife was near death, although Johnson ended up working the game.

Dvoracek has spent the past two seasons working the sideline during radio broadcasts along with Chris Plank and former Sooner linebacker Teddy Lehman. Dvoracek and Lehman host “The Rush,” a daily afternoon radio show on KREF in Norman.

Dvoracek was a two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection during his OU playing career, and went on to spend three seasons with the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
