MOORE — Southmoore defensive back Julian Wilson committed to Oklahoma on Tuesday. The 6-2, 180-pounder chose the Sooners over Florida, Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Colorado and others.
“Coach (Bobby Jack) Wright was real excited when I told him,” Wilson said. “I talked to Coach Stoops on the phone and he was real fired up about it.”
Wilson, who plays both receiver and defensive back for Southmoore, will play either cornerback or safety at OU. As the recruiting process grew tiresome for Wilson, the senior-to-be decided to make his decision on Tuesday and the Sooners seemed the ideal fit.
“I felt OU was the best school for me,” he said. “As soon as I stepped on campus, I felt like that's where I needed to be.”
The ability to stay close to home while playing for championships was the biggest benefit of choosing the Sooners.
“You can't beat that,” he said. “It's one of the top schools in the country, 15 minutes from home. What's the use of going miles away when I can stay at home, be around my family and still compete for a national championship?”
