OU football notebook: Bob Stoops mum on Texas A&M-SEC rumors

OU coach Bob Stoops didn't offer an opinion on rumors Texas A&M is strongly considering leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.

Are you following the A&M saga?

“No,” he said.

Heard about it?

“Yeah.”

Your thoughts?

“None.”

FULL SCRIMMAGE SCHEDULED SATURDAY

The Sooners will go through an 85- to 105-play scrimmage Saturday morning, the first major scrimmage of fall camp. Two high-profile battles are at running back and the backup quarterback job behind Landry Jones.

Stoops and his coaches grade scrimmages with a more discerning eye. But every practice is part of the overall evaluation.

“Every day we practice it's like a scrimmage. We go full speed,” said running backs coach Cale Gundy. “The biggest difference in scrimmages is coaches are off the field and they have to make decisions on their own, recognize the defense and know what they're doing.”

The scrimmage is closed to the public and media.

JONES ENROLLS AT OU

Linebacker Kellen Jones, who left Michigan last month after signing with the Wolverines in February, has enrolled at Oklahoma and is expected to join the team.

The 6-1, 225-pound outside linebacker out of Houston's St. Pius X High School was rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. He was recruited by Arkansas, Illinois, Miami, Missouri and Stanford, among others.

Jones is expected to be eligible this season and have four seasons of eligibility.
