Stoops stands by Mangino
Kansas coach Mark Mangino has faced criticism this week under allegations that he emotionally and physically abused his players, and had problems controlling his anger.

The Jayhawks’ five-game losing streak hasn’t helped his case, but Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops stuck by his former assistant.

"He always has been very close with his guys and very concerned about them, compassionate about them,” Stoops said. "All the times I’ve been with him, very close with his guys.”

Mangino served as the Sooners’ offensive coordinator from 2000-01 and was the offensive line coach in 1999.

Stoops OK Either way with anthem
Stoops said he has no preference over what fans yell at the end of the national anthem.

Typically, the word "brave” has been replaced by the word "Sooners.”

"Whatever 85,000 people feel is necessary to do, that’s their right,” Stoops said. "I’m not much of a politician, but I do believe everybody respects country, what it stands for, the national anthem, all of that. I believe in my heart, regardless of what they say on the last word.”

Caleb, Simmons, Evans practice
Junior receiver Brandon Caleb, senior offensive lineman Brian Simmons and freshman offensive lineman Tyler Evans all continued practicing on Wednesday. Caleb has dressed for the past two games after suffering an ankle injury, but has yet to play. Simmons injured his knee against Baylor and has missed the last five games. Evans aggravated an ankle injury against Texas A&M, and his status this week was questionable.
