OU football notebook: Bob Stoops talks about Terrelle Pryor

OU coach Bob Stoops was on a coaches' panel a year ago that conducted a conference call with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The panel discussed several issues, including problems created outside college football programs.

Does Stoops endorse Goodell's decision to suspend former Ohio State quarterback Terrell Pryor five games?

“I think it's even suspect whether he's eligible, truly eligible,” Stoops said. “I'm not sitting here criticizing anyone. But it's worth questioning whether he is (eligible). Forever it was ‘he didn't do anything else.' Then, when it works to be eligible for the draft, ‘I did do all this.' Which is it?

“At the end of the day, I hope they'll keep supporting us at the NCAA level, in college ball, of our suspensions and what's appropriate, the way we try to run our system, to back us up. I think they're trying to do that. I think Mr. Goodell and the people in the NFL are very sincere in wanting to support us that way.”

ESPN AIRS TRAINING CAMP SHOW

A one-hour ESPN special: “Training Days with the Oklahoma Sooners” aired Tuesday night.

Linebacker Travis Lewis said different players will wear the No. 12 jersey throughout the season in memory of Austin Box, who died in May.

One highlight was Stoops' kids at practice.

“Having the kids around is unique,” Lewis said. “I refer to them as the ‘terror squad.' Those kids can go all day like the Energizer bunny. I wish I had that much energy.”
