OU football notebook: Chaz Nelson, junior college defensive end, commits to Sooners

Nelson said said he plans to come to Oklahoma in January.

Junior college defensive end Chaz Nelson verbally committed to Oklahoma on Sunday morning, becoming the 15th verbal commit of the 2012 class, ESPN.com reports.

Nelson, a 6-foot-2 and 235-pound Garden City Community College player, said he plans to come to Oklahoma in January.

He graduated from Columbus (Ohio) Beechcroft and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Expect a Bedlam shootout?

Most expect Bedlam will be a shootout. Early Las Vegas lines set the over/under for points scored at 78.

“We feel we can win any type of game,” said OU quarterback Landry Jones. “We've been in all of them. We've been in tight games. We've been in shootouts. I think this offense is capable of playing in any type of game.”

How much pressure does a veteran quarterback with 35 career starts feel going into a big game?

“It's tough to win a game when the quarterback doesn't take care of the ball or make the right reads,” Jones said. “That's every game you go through that.”


Oklahoma State thrives on its high-powered offense and on winning the turnover battle.
