OU football notebook: Four-star WR to commit to Sooners?

Jheranie Boyd, a four-star wide receiver out of Gastonia, N.C., is expected to announce his commitment today.
Many believe Boyd is deciding between Oklahoma and Missouri, though he also said he is considering Illinois, North Carolina and North Carolina State. Boyd is the No. 32-ranked player in the nation, according to the recruiting Web site Rivals.com. Bradford, McCoy and Stoops named award semifinalists Quarterback Sam Bradford (Maxwell Award), defensive tackle Gerald McCoy (Chuck Bednarik Award) and coach Bob Stoops (George Munger Award) were selected Wednesday as semifinalists for awards determined by the Maxwell Football Club. The Maxwell goes to the college football player of the year. The Bednarik goes to the college football defensive player of the year. And the Munger is awarded to the college coach of the year.LB Box improving
After a rocky performance at Kansas State, middle linebacker Austin Box improved in his second start against Nebraska last weekend. Box, who is starting in place of Ryan Reynolds, out with a season-ending knee injury, had three tackles against the Cornhuskers. "I thought he had a better game than he did a week ago,” defensive coordinator Brent Venables said. "I’m pleased with the progress he’s made, and I really expect him to get more and more comfortable.”Family affair
No Sooner was happier about the NBA coming to Oklahoma City than junior offensive guard Brian Simmons. Simmons, who grew up in Raleigh, N.C., is cousin to Chicago Bulls forward Cedric Simmons out of North Carolina State. Brian Simmons said he plans to watch his cousin play when the Bulls take on the Thunder in Oklahoma City on March 18. "I’m excited about the NBA being here,” Brian Simmons said.
