OU football notebook: Fullback Trey Millard says Sooners can still win Big 12

Millard: “We had one loss last year in the Big 12. We got a co-championship. It's still out there for us. We just have to go out and do our job the rest of the season.”

After Texas' 36-20 upset over Oklahoma on Saturday, Sooners players were still confident OU could get back into the league race.

“You've still got to try to springboard it,” fullback Trey Millard said. “The Big 12, we can still win. We had one loss last year in the Big 12. We got a co-championship. It's still out there for us. We just have to go out and do our job the rest of the season.”

The Sooners get to start that springboard against Kansas, where they'll play Saturday.

The Jayhawks have dropped 23 consecutive conference games dating back to 2010.

TEXAS D SLOWS DOWN BELL

Blake Bell ran just three times for eight yards in the loss to Texas, although the Longhorns had struggled to contain quarterbacks in the run game.

“Some of it was quarterback-read game, and the way they were playing their edges, the ball is given around on the perimeter,” Sooners co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel said. “We had a couple quarterback runs inside we didn't execute. We didn't have efficient plays.”

Heupel said Texas' defense also led Bell to hand off on zone-read plays as well.

Bell was sacked four times for minus-35 yards to finish with minus-27 yards rushing.
