uot;We don’t get to go out and claim people through free agency.”
As the OU offense has gained balance in recent weeks, producing on the ground as well as through the air, the offensive line has come into focus as the veteran and productive group that it was billed to be.
Where does it rank in the Stoops’ era?
"Ask me in a couple weeks,” Stoops said. "They have been one of our better lines thus far, though. To me, it’s hard to say which line is better than some of our lines in the past, but these guys are certainly up there.”
It’s well documented that Stoops hired Mike Leach
because of the difficulty of the matchup when they met as opposing assistant coaches in the SEC — Stoops the defensive coordinator at Florida, Leach the offensive coordinator at Kentucky.
Together at OU for one season in 1999, Leach said he benefited from listening to Stoops’ take on defense.
"We used to talk quite a lot,” Leach said. "It really was handy. Bob would come down the hall, and we’d sit down, and he’d tell me defensively what he’d be looking for.”
